ITALY

Few destinations offer quite as much variety for a wedding as Italy. Historic villas overlooking lakes, countryside estates surrounded by vineyards, centuries-old masserie, seaside hotels and palazzos in the heart of some of Europe’s most beautiful cities all exist within one country.

But choosing Italy is only the beginning. The experience - and the type of wedding you can create - changes dramatically depending on where you go.

Italy is already a major destination-wedding market: Italy's national tourism agency reports nearly 17,000 weddings by international couples in 2025, and the country's official tourism site highlights lakeside, Mediterranean, countryside and historic-city weddings as distinct Italian experiences.

Tuscany

Rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, vineyards and centuries-old estates make Tuscany one of Italy's most recognizable wedding destinations. It's particularly well suited to couples dreaming of a relaxed, multi-day celebration centered around incredible food, wine and time spent together.

Venue options range from intimate agriturismi and wine estates to sprawling private villas, castles and entire restored borgos. Florence, Chianti, Siena and Val d'Orcia can each offer a slightly different version of the Tuscan experience. Tuscany has also historically been one of the most popular Italian regions for international destination weddings.

Lake Como

Lake Como is the polished, glamorous side of an Italian destination wedding. Think historic villas, manicured gardens, dramatic mountains and arrivals by boat.

It's an incredible choice for couples who prioritize scenery and luxury, although the geography of the lake and popularity of its most sought-after properties mean that logistics deserve particularly careful consideration. Italy's official tourism site specifically identifies Como as one of the country's signature lakeside wedding destinations.

Puglia

For something that feels distinctly southern Italian, Puglia is hard to replicate.

The region is known for its whitewashed towns, ancient olive groves, coastline, trulli and particularly its masserie — historic fortified farmhouses that have been transformed into some of southern Italy's most beautiful hotels and event spaces. Italy's official wedding-tourism resources specifically highlight masserie, trulli and beaches as defining elements of weddings in Puglia.

The Amalfi Coast

Few wedding destinations make an entrance quite like the Amalfi Coast.

Positano, Ravello, Amalfi and the surrounding coastline offer dramatic Mediterranean views, historic hotels, terraces and villas seemingly suspended above the sea. The trade-off for that scenery can be more complicated transportation and guest logistics, making venue location particularly important here. The Amalfi Coast is among the Mediterranean wedding settings highlighted by Italy's official tourism organization.

Best for: Coastal glamour · Smaller celebrations · Views · Luxury hotels
