GREECE

Greece has all the ingredients for an unforgettable destination wedding: spectacular scenery, incredible food, warm hospitality and a seemingly endless collection of places to celebrate beside the water.

While the Greek Islands may get most of the attention, there’s far more to consider. From the sophisticated coastline of the Athenian Riviera to the olive groves of the Peloponnese and secluded resorts of Northern Greece, each destination offers a very different way to experience the country.

For couples who want their wedding to feel like a vacation from the moment their guests arrive, Greece makes that remarkably easy.

Athens

Athens offers something particularly valuable for a destination wedding: the culture and accessibility of a major European city alongside a beautiful stretch of Mediterranean coastline.

Head south from the capital and the city gradually gives way to the Athenian Riviera, where seaside estates, private venues and luxury resorts overlook the Saronic Gulf. Couples can create the feeling of an island wedding while keeping the logistics considerably simpler for international guests.

It also makes for a natural wedding weekend - a few days exploring Athens, a welcome dinner overlooking the water and a wedding celebration along the coast.

The Greek Islands

There isn't one version of a Greek island wedding — and that's exactly what makes the islands so interesting.

Santorini offers dramatic caldera views and iconic sunsets. Mykonos brings whitewashed villas, beach clubs and a decidedly more energetic atmosphere. Corfu is greener and more romantic, with Venetian architecture and historic estates, while Crete offers vineyards, olive groves, resorts and an enormous stretch of coastline.

Choosing the right island comes down to far more than the view. Accessibility, accommodation, venue styles and the kind of weekend you want your guests to experience can vary considerably from one island to another.

The Peloponnese

For couples who love the idea of Greece but aren't necessarily looking for the traditional island experience, the Peloponnese is one of the country's most interesting alternatives.

The peninsula combines olive groves, mountains, historic towns and long stretches of coastline with luxury resorts, private estates and beautifully secluded settings. Areas such as the Argolid and Messinia offer a particularly appealing mix of scenery and hospitality.

The result is a destination that can feel wonderfully removed while still being reachable from Athens - ideal for couples who want their guests to settle in and experience Greece at a slower pace.

Northern Greece

Northern Greece offers a very different perspective on a Greek destination wedding - particularly for couples willing to look beyond the country's most famous islands.

Halkidiki is known for its three distinctive peninsulas, where pine-covered landscapes meet clear Aegean water. Luxury resorts and coastal properties make the region especially appealing for weddings where accommodation, beaches and multiple events can all be centered around one destination.

Nearby Thessaloniki adds another dimension, giving guests the opportunity to experience one of Greece's great food cities before escaping to the coast for the celebration.
